Our Programmes
Makyth Ventures Ignite
Makyth Ventures: Ignite is Winchester College's annual interscholastic pitch competition aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills and mindsets among students, preparing them to thrive in a world of rapid change.
Participating teams engage in a series of online workshops with business professionals to help them construct a compelling business case, leading up to a live pitch competition for family, friends, and, of course, a panel of judges.
2024’s competition asked students to think about social entrepreneurship and to use creative ideas to solve real world problems in their local community. Over 20 teams from Winchester and schools across the country, including Benenden, participated in the challenge, with 10 teams making it through to the grand final. Pitches ranged from a business to deter stubble burning amongst rice farmers in Thailand to a gamified financial literacy app. The esteemed panel of judges included a civil service adviser whose work has spanned across smart cities and biotech, and an entrepreneur who was involved in the Uber and what3words.
Design & Enterprise
Makyth Ventures and the Winchester College DT Department have collaborated to present a Design & Enterprise Workshop—a hands-on, team-based project centred around product design, prototyping, and business planning.
Through this program, students have the chance to cultivate essential problem-solving skills in design thinking, analysis, iteration, and business, all while gaining practical experience in collaboratively building and pitching a product. It also provides the opportunity for additional personal statement and portfolio building ahead of university applications.
CATALYST: The Impact of Innovation on Society
Collaborating with CATALYST, we offer intensive team-based startup simulations where students must collaborate under strict time pressure, competing against other teams as they learn to adapt to and overcome 'market shocks' while gaining experience in working with a small team in a high-pressure context.
Intensives are designed to be both challenging and highly interactive allowing participants to delve deeply into specific topics: unit economics, managing risk, team building, revenue models and more.
We are on the verge of technological revolution: cryptology, the metaverse, generative AI, biotech, robotics, the space economy... the way that innovators navigate this ever-changing landscape will make all the difference. LSE Generate
We have the pleasure of being partnered with the London School of Economics’s accelerator programme, Generate. Our 2021 programme culminated with a co-hosted pitch competition organised together with LSE Generate, the London School of Economics's entrepreneurship hub.
The competition saw student founders pitch for up to £20,000.
